The Spring Festival is the first year of the Lunar New Year. The other name of the Spring Festival is the New Year. It is the oldest, most lively and most important ancient traditional festival in China. It is also a unique festival for the Chinese. It is the most concentrated expression of Chinese civilization. Since the Western Han Dynasty, the custom of the Spring Festival has continued to this day. The Spring Festival generally refers to New Year's Eve and the first day of the first month. However, in the folk, the traditional Chinese New Year refers to the festival from the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month or the twenty-three or twenty-fourth of the twelfth lunar month until the fifteenth day of the first lunar month, in which New Year's Eve and the first day of the first month are the climax. Celebrating this festival, in the historical development of thousands of years, some relatively fixed customs and habits have been formed, many of which have been passed down to this day. During the traditional festival of the Spring Festival, the Han nationality and most ethnic minorities in China have to hold various celebrations. Most of these activities are mainly to worship the gods, pay homage to the ancestors, save the old cloth, welcome the blessings, and pray for the harvest. The activities are colorful and have a strong national character. On May 20, 2006, the "Spring Festival" folk custom was approved by the State Council to be included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage.
